Reading #12

Kim Jones
Pg, 208-213
After reading about Kim Jones and his alter ego Mudman I became very interested that his man dressed up as this different man and walked the streets and several different cities. Kim intrigued me because it was such a different way to express oneself than the other artists I have read about so far. I thought it was awesome how he did not try to hide anything in being Mudman. He got dressed and put on his costume in the open and took mud from wherever he could find it in the city, which was either in a park or on private property.  I enjoyed how his character was mostly natural and one big conversation piece. He did not put on an act with the costume he talked to people as he normally would, but he just wanted to get a reaction out of modern day society and see how they would react. He said it was a good way to meet people. My thoughts on his artwork, is its very creative and different. He took a different approach than most people because he said sculpture and painting were too restrictive. He wanted to branch out and be different, which I respect. I think Mudman is an awesome idea and very original. He gets to see how modern day civilians react to it, whether they are curious and appreciative or stand-offish and offended. Kim Jones is very creative and I respect his courageous and appeal to not being tied down to restrictive artwork.
